No Distractions

The title of this post says it all: No Distractions. This of course is one of the best ways to avoid procrastination, but that’s a lot easier said than done. So with that being said, how can it be done? First things first is you obviously want to remove the big distractions like your phone. Something about that little computer that we put in our … Continue reading No Distractions

The Sands of Time

Another post with no quote today, because there’s another concept I’ve heard before that I feel like needs to be addressed. As we’ve discussed many times before, stress is a powerful thing. You can either use that stress to your advantage or you can let it consume you, and there’s ways to make the first choice easier. We’ve talked about that idea quite a bit … Continue reading The Sands of Time

Divide and Conquer

100th Blog Post, yay!! No quote for today though, because I wanted to focus on a specific concept that doesn’t really stick to any one idea that I could find a quote for.    I’d like to preface this by saying that most self help influencers assume that everybody wants the same things: a lot of money, a huge mansion, three kids and a lamborghini. Although … Continue reading Divide and Conquer

The word worship today tends to have a mixture of connotations depending on the person that hears or reads it. In its original sense it simply meant to acknowledge the worth or worthiness of something. We attend to what we value and to what we deem worthy. Therefore attention is an act of worship because we are implying that what we are focusing on is important. The fear of death, the fear of change, and the fear of the unknown are all facets of a similar qualitative experience. The less we resist and the more we come to accept and work with the winds of change the better off we’ll be. Our experience relies upon the way we relate to things. Our relationship to the various parts of ourselves, our relationship to others, and our relationship to everything else invariably impacts the way we experience reality. There is no way to escape from this because we don’t live in a vacuum and while we may perceive ourselves as disconnected, the reality is everything affects everything else. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson “…First, take the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.” - Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:5 CEV) When we create an ideal we immediately create a judge for ourselves. We realize that there is a place or way of being which is better than where we currently are. Our relationship to this judge can either uplift us to new heights or decimate us under immense pressure. Being able to recognize this through self-reflection is crucial. Life happens and it’s how we choose to respond which makes the difference. Whether it is fortune or misfortune the way we decide to act is what steers our life and actualizes our destiny. Therefore it is crucial that we live humbly in order to learn from our mistakes so we can grow wiser with understanding. “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” - Joseph Campbell It’s of the utmost importance that we have an aim and it’s critical that we have something worth while to aim at. When we aim at something we have direction and this gives us a sense of how to work with what reality may throw our way. If our path is obstructed then we may need to take another route or we may need to exercise creativity in order to solve the issue at hand. If we are without a purpose or port to sail to then we will struggle with the things which life throws our way.
